Branch Lopping

We have extensive expertise in the maintenance and clearing of power line routes. Our equipment is CE marked and type-approved for helicopter use by both the Swedish Transport Agency and the European Air Safety Agency (EASA).

We use a range of equipment depending on the assignment:

Helimatic Uppercut S-10: For vertical cutting along the power line route. Consists of ten saw blades vertically mounted on a shaft. (See picture).

Helimatic Horizont: Horizontal pruning saw consisting of two horizontally mounted saw blades for maintaining the trees nearest to the line.

Grappling

We have extensive expertise in the maintenance and reinstatement of power line routes. Our equipment is CE marked and type-approved for helicopter use by both the Swedish Transport Agency and the European Air Safety Agency (EASA).

We use Heligrip to lift away trees that have fallen across the line. Heligrip consists of grapples and a guillotine which allows the pilot to lift trees from the line whole or cut into pieces and then set them down in a suitable location.

Lifting and construction

Our pilots have extensive experience of lifting and construction work using helicopters. Examples of such projects are the construction of various types of masts, the siting of snow cannons and the routing of cables during power line construction work.
With the aid of our specially designed lifting equipment, mobile tank installations and expert staff, we are able to ensure effective completion of most types of assignment.

We use machines of differing size and lifting capacity, and this gives us the flexibility to adapt to the specific nature of the assignment in question. The net result is cost efficiencies, both for ourselves and for the customer.

  • For heavy lifting jobs we use an Airbus H125, allowing us to lift 1,400 kg.
  • For lighter lifting jobs we use an EC 120 Colibri, allowing us to lift 600 kg.
  • For lifts involving more than 1,400 kg, we have access to machines capable of lifting up to 20 tonnes, through the good services of our cooperation partners.

Materials transportation

Transporting materials by air is beneficial for both animal life and the natural environment in general. Helicopter lifts are also the quickest and easiest method where long distances and difficult terrain are involved. Material can be transported suspended from the helicopter using our specially designed containers, or carried inside the cabin and cargo space. We have access to our own Volvo L35B tractor to ensure rapid and efficient loading of our containers.

Because we have many different machines at our disposal, we tailor the size of helicopter and lifting capacity to each individual assignment.

  • For heavy transportation jobs we use an Airbus H125, allowing us to lift 1,400 kg.
  • For lighter lifting jobs we use an EC 120 Colibri, allowing us to lift 600 kg.
  • For transportation jobs involving more than 1,400 kg, we have access to machines capable of lifting up to 20 tonnes, through the good services of our cooperation partners.

Spreading of materials

STORM HELIWORKS has baskets specially designed to carry and spread lime, mosquito insecticides and concrete. These baskets allow us to spread large quantities of material over difficult terrain in a short time.

The Airbus H125 can lift and spread 1,400 kg per lift. So that we can complete the spreading operation as efficiently as possible, we set up a mobile base in the vicinity of the area where the work is being carried out. This is done using a fuel trailer and service vehicle. On this type of assignment, we fly with two baskets to eliminate helicopter waiting time on loading.

We have access to our own Volvo L35B tractor to ensure rapid and efficient loading of our spreading equipment.

LiDAR – Topographic laser surveys

Here at STORM HELIWORKS we have extensive experience of carrying out LiDAR topographic surveys by helicopter. The LiDAR system generates 3D images using a laser scanner mounted under the helicopter. The system is controlled in real time from the helicopter’s cabin.
Each year our pilots complete several hundred hours of survey flights across the length and breadth of Europe.

Line inspection

At STORM HELIWORKS, we have for many years provided a support service for the power generating companies here in the Nordic region. Our flights involve the traditional type of line inspection, as well as storm damage assessments and power outage response/troubleshooting.

We also perform de-icing work on power lines, for which we use a wooden log suspended from the machine to carefully knock ice and heavy snow off the lines.

Our pilots are trained to EBR standard and have extensive experience of carrying out airborne inspections and ice control assignments.

Fire fighting

STORM HELIWORKS pilots are accustomed to assisting the police and emergency services when ground or forest fires break out. The fire fighting equipment is on standby 24 hours a day, and we can deploy at short notice. Using an Airbus H125 we can lift and spread 1,300 litres of water per lift. With the aid of a fuel trailer and service vehicle, we can quickly set up a mobile base near to the fire, allowing us to deal with it more effectively.

Reindeer driving

By fitting a horn to our R44 we can help round up reindeer when the time comes round to tag the calves, as well as for other purposes.

If a larger machine is needed, there is also the option of using our EC120 Colibri.
